A Thuismitheoirí/Chaomhnóirí,

GAME PLAYING DAY

A Game Playing Hour will be held in the school tomorrow. This is part of the National Game Playing Day. Children are encouraged to bring €2 and their favourite board game to school to play during the day. All proceeds raised on the day will go to Autism Ireland. This year we are raising money to fund special play therapy for children with autism. By taking part in Game Playing Day we will receive a FREE hamper of MB and Parker board games from Hasbro.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Please find attached details of the Operation Christmas Child Project, if you are interested in taking part, please return the boxes to the school immediately after Halloween.

SWIMMING CLASSES

Swimming classes for all children in the school have been booked in the Park Inn Leisure Centre, Mulranny, commencing on Friday 9 November. Classes will run for six weeks.

In order to keep costs to a minimum and as we have only 31 pupils in the school, we have booked a 29 seater coach. Therefore we will need two parents to volunteer to take their cars and a number of children each week. If twelve people are willing to volunteer, you would only need to bring children one week. As in previous years parents are welcome to meet us and help out at the pool. Please have a look at the attached form and indicate your availability. We are still waiting to find out what Breaking the Cycle funding will be allocated to the school this year. When this is known we will decide the cost of the classes.

We will be leaving the school at 10:50a.m. and hope to be back in the school before 1:00p.m.

Children must bring a towel, swimming hat, swimming costume/trunks with them and arm bands and goggles if necessary. (Please ensure your child’s name is on everything).
Children are not permitted to buy any food or drinks in the Leisure Centre.

Enjoy the Halloween break. We will be back to school on Monday, November 5.

A Thuimsitheoirí/Chaomhnóirí,

School Book Rental Scheme
The school book rental money for the 2007/2008 school year is now due for payment. The cost of the scheme this year is €40 per child. This covers all books, workbooks, readers, photocopying, art material, test materials etc.. for the year. We would appreciate payment before the Halloween Break. Cheques can be made payable to Bunnacurry N.S. Any family experiencing hardship in making this payment should contact the principal.

Green Schools
The school is now registered as a Green School. We will begin work this week on the Green Flag Award Scheme.
Green-Schools, known internationally as Eco-Schools, is an international environmental education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes and acknowledges long-term, whole school action for the environment.
Unlike a once-off project, it is a long-term programme that introduces participants (students, teachers, parents and the wider community) to the concept of an environmental management system. However, Green-Schools is far more than just an environmental management system. It fosters a strong sense of citizenship and leadership among participants that spreads far outside the school into the wider community. It also promotes a strong sense of teamwork among teachers, students and the wider community to reach a common high level goal. It flattens and democratises school management structures. It brings children into the decision-making process and makes them responsible for their decision and actions. In fact it could be best described as being ‘more than the sum of its parts’.
The aim of Green-Schools is to increase students’ and participant awareness of environmental issues through classroom studies and to transfer this knowledge into positive environmental action in the school and also in the wider community. Schools that have successfully completed all the elements of the programme are awarded the ‘Green-Flag’. This award has now become a well-recognised Eco-Label. The award has to be renewed every two years.
Green-Schools (Eco-Schools) is an initative of, and co-ordinated on an international level by, FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education). There are currently over 14,500 schools in 37 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, OceaniaSouth America taking part in the programme.

Swimming Classes
Swimming classes will commence on Friday, the 9 of November in the Park Inn Leisure Centre, Mulranny at 11:15a.m. Classes will run for six weeks.
